Google Puts 'Mobile Social Networking' on the Map

Google's Latitude enables location-sharing on smartphones or through an iGoogle gadget on the desktop. Though not a new social network, it introduces mobile social networking to the popular mapping application. And while success is by no means guaranteed, Latitude immediately challenges services such as Loopt and raises the question of whether Facebook will seek to add similar location-awareness capabilities to its mobile application.
