The Pew Internet & American Life Project surveyed 1,196 "internet leaders, activists and analysts" about a range of topics regarding the Future of the Internet. Among the findings of interest to this blog:
The mobile device will be the primary connection tool to the Internet for most people in the world in 2020:
Voice recognition and touch user-interfaces with the Internet will be more prevalent and accepted by 2020
In a way these two findings are "no brainers." Voice and touch screens have both gained considerable steam among mainstream users over the past two years. We can expect these trends to continue.
Most developing countries lack the Western "PC infrastructure." Already in those places, the mobile phone is the only or the primary Internet access device. The more interesting question, it seems to me, is when this flip will occur in the West and other developed countries. It could easily happen before 2020.
