Deloitte conducted its "State of the Media Democracy survey" this past September. Just over 2,000 responses were collected from the online survey. Respondents were between 14 and 75 and reside in the US.
It was a very broad survey about media usage and attitudes. Here are the mobile-related findings:
- 47% of smartphone owners identify the device as "one of their three most valuable media and entertainment products" -- a significant increase from 20% last year
- 30% of surveyed consumers use their mobile phone as an entertainment device
- 48% have data plans for their mobile phones
- 42% are using their phones to access the Internet.
- 15% of consumers already purchasing products on their phone.
According to the survey these were the most popular mobile activities:
- text messaging (72%)
- accessing the Internet (42%)
- online search (30%)
- downloading applications (27%)
- using GPS (26%)
