Apple announced earnings yesterday and downloaded a bunch of iPhone statistics. Here they are:

• 6.8 million iPhones sold in the quarter (since July)
• iPhone will shortly be available in 70 countries
• Apple now the world's third largest mobile phone supplier (by revenues): Nokia 12.7 billion; Samsung 5.9 billion; Apple 4.6 billion; Sony Ericsson 4.2 billion; LG 3.4 billion; Motorola 3.2 billion and RIM at 2.1.
• Apple outsold RIM/BlackBerry in the quarter. From the conference call transcript:

I would like to now highlight two remarkable milestones resulting from iPhone’s outstanding performance last quarter. The first is that Apple beat RIM. In their most recent quarter, Research in Motion, or RIM, reported selling 6.1 million BlackBerry devices. Compared to our most recent quarter sales of 6.9 million iPhones, Apple outsold RIM last quarter and this is a milestone for us. RIM is a good company that makes good products and so it is surprising that after only 15 months in the market, we could outsell them in any quarter.

Here are AT&T's earnings: The company activated 2.4 million iPhones in the quarter and those are helping to drive data revenues for the carrier.  Total subs: 74.9 million.
